Viola Gardens

“Viola Gardens was born out of a passionate and life-long love for nature, beauty and art. Inspired by the possibilities inherent when these elements come together in the garden, there is nothing more sublime, calming and heartening than watching and nurturing life as it grows.  Employing the principles of permaculture, I approach each design with the intent of creating a space that uniquely suits the personality and lifestyles of my clients, exists in harmony with the architecture of the space, is ecologically responsible, restorative and functional, and ultimately creates the conditions for unfolding beauty, over and over, in time.  In nature, the remedy always grows right next to the poison.  By building functional connections in a diverse landscape, I can arrive at design solutions that culminate in abundance.”

“Permaculture is revolution disguised as gardening.” M. Feingold

What is a “Naturalized Garden” anyway?

A good garden design never forces itself in the landscape but rather, employs the principles of natural design to arrive at solutions that make the most sense, creating relationships between plants, wildlife and people, inspiring beauty and producing yield.  A native garden has many benefits in the landscape.  A front lawn can easily be converted in to a piece of art which functions in a variety of ways.  The first step is to work with what is, assessing the intrinsic qualities of a location, including the people, to arrive at design concepts that uniquely, organically and functionally make sense.  And then we can start to dream - do you imagine a wild cottage garden, a soft desert landscape, an edible forest, a grassy meadow? By using plants in the landscape that are native or “naturalized” to create an aesthetic, we can restore habitat, create diversity through relationship with eliminates disease and problems, save water, encourage birds, butterflies and wildlife to play a role in maintaining balance in the landscape, and help attract pollinators to grow delicious food.  To create a garden using the principles of natural design is to create relationships in the landscape and inspire abundant beauty that sustains itself.
